About

Communication shapes how an organization is understood. And how confidently it moves forward.

I have seen this in every organization I have worked with. The quality of the work and the clarity of the communication are two different things. My job is to bring them closer together.

The gap I work on

The gap I work on.

The organizations doing the most important work in their communities are not always the ones communicating it most clearly. Somewhere between what an organization knows about itself and what the outside world sees, something gets lost.

In most cases it is a clarity problem. The work is real and the intent is there. The systems to communicate it clearly have not been built, have not kept pace, or have drifted over time. That is what I work on.

How I think about this work

How I think about this work.

Good communication is legible. It helps the right person understand, at the right moment, whether your organization can help them and what to do next.

I work at the level of structure. How information is organized, how services are described, how language is used consistently across an organization. That work is less visible than a new logo or a campaign. It lasts longer, because it is built into the foundation of how the organization communicates.

Why this approach

Why this approach.

I have spent most of my career working with organizations whose missions I believe in. What I have seen, consistently, is that communication is treated as a finishing touch. Something that gets done after the real work is complete.

When communication is structured well from the start, it supports the work. It makes it easier to run programs, bring staff onboard, serve clients, and make the case to funders. That is what I am building toward in every engagement.

Primarily nonprofits and human-service organizations navigating periods of growth, transition, or increased demand, where communication has quietly fallen behind the pace of the work.

Chioma Michael — Communications Strategist

I am a communications strategist specializing in nonprofit and human-service organizations. I work with leadership teams and communications staff to bring structure to digital communication, align messaging, and build systems that can be maintained over time.

My work spans education, health-adjacent, and professional service environments where accuracy, trust, and clarity directly affect outcomes. I work with a small number of organizations at a time because this kind of work requires real engagement.
